Rodrigo Serrão

Artist of the Month | October 2020

During the initial stages of building this unique instrument, there was a lot of research on what pickup we should use. I couldn’t be more happy with the results: the K&K Trinity Pro Classic System is the perfect and probably only system, with the ability to bring out the full tone and all the nuances of an acoustic Fretboard Tapping instrument such as my Dragonfly Acoustic.

Musician, singer, composer, writer and record producer, Rodrigo Serrão has taken to the Chapman Stick and the Free Hands technique with passion and full commitment. Aided by his experience (Rodrigo has performed everywhere in the world and participated in over one hundred records), he has embraced the playing style created by Emmett Chapman with each hand crossing over all the strings to play any entire fretboard tapping instrument, exploiting the unified sound it offers — beautifully interwoven tapestries of sound emerging.

His music is best described as “deeply rooted in Portuguese cultural tradition”, viewed thru the lenses of this technique’s unique potential. What this tradition means, historically speaking, is that it has its origins in the convergence between European and North African music, denying nothing but forcing everything to be led by a longing poetic feel – the Portuguese way.
