Austin Weyand

Artist of the Month | September 2011

Austin uses the PowerMix Trinity XT System in his guitar:

“The PowerMix Trinity XT System is the best acoustic guitar set up I’ve had. I have never experienced such clarity, control and minimal noise.”

Drawing from the refinement of classical music, the visceral experience of blues and classic rock and the swinging dance feel of American jazz, Celtic and other folk traditions, Austin Weyand creates a truly diverse and awe-inspiring experience through the performance of solo acoustic guitar instrumentals. When Austin’s playing at home it sounds as if Andres’ Segovia, Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt, Michael Hedges, Lindsay Buckingham, and John Doyle are having a dinner party.

Family, friends and various life situations have also played an important part in the inspiration that has led to Austin’s style. He has composed pieces about his daughters, wife, mother, and funny life stories that surrounded them. Austin’s style is all his own, because in his compositions he expresses pieces of his life story.

As the 2008 champion of the State of Wyoming Fingerstyle Guitar Competition, Austin has drawn attention to his music. National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Chris Proctor says, “Austin plays imaginative, original pieces and arrangements for solo guitar with a fine technique and excellent tone. If you like solo acoustic guitar, you’ll find his music right up your alley.”

Austin’s new CD entitled Too Much Information showcases 11 powerful solo guitar instrumentals, 9 of which are Austin’s own compositions and arrangements. Austin holds a masters degree in jazz studies from Northern Illinois University where he studied intensively with eclectic classical, jazz, and jam band recording artist Fareed Haque. He has performed with various jazz groups, acoustic bands, orchestras and recording projects including for the CBS television show “Touched by an Angel.” Along with performing solo he performs regularly with the Austin Weyand Band, the Aaron Ashton Band, Briarwood Musicians, and Lokalgrown.
