Sarah King
My local luthier got me hooked on K&K pickups a couple years ago, and they not only saved my acoustic tone throughout the era of livestreams last year, they also sound amazing in professional recordings and being played live. I tell everyone about them when they ask how I get my guitars to sound so good plugged in.
I have K&K Twin Spot Internal pickups in both of my acoustics - a custom redwood 12 fret based on the Gibson L1, and a 1965 Gibson LG1. The redwood guitar can be heard on my live studio recording of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" - recorded at Sun Mountain Studios with producers David Baron & Simone Felice, who both remarked how good the guitar sounded plugged in.
NEMA's 2021 Songwriter of the Year Sarah King inhabits the dark side of Americana, creating gritty murder ballads and feminist anthems anchored by her atmospheric voice and rhythmic blues guitar. Her music is for the lost and lonely, when the twist of a knife is what keeps the pain at bay, and a song can lead to redemption. Her debut EP The Hour, produced by Simone Felice and David Baron (The Lumineers, Jade Bird), marks her stunning arrival with "Nightstand" named 2020's #1 Best Song in Vermont by County Tracks. King's live show crackles with energy and devil-may-care attitude, earning her support slots for The Steel Woods, performances at the 2020 and 2021 Philadelphia Folk Festival, a main stage slot at Black Bear Americana Fest, and a place on 2021's Vermont Roots Roadshow.
